I have been contemplating the possibility of volunteering. I thought volunteering for Easter, in some way, would be a good idea.
I have served in different groups as a volunteer and have enjoyed the experience for the most part. I have currently been asked to be a volunteer in a health care reform group. I go to those meetings when I can.
This weekend I was given a chance to serve in two different roles.
My boyfriend is getting his house ready for an appraisal. He had planned on coming to my house this weekend to help me with some honey do’s.
I told him I thought I should go to his house and help him instead.
He said, “No, I think I need a break. I’ll come over to yours to help you.”
That is just how nice he is but I wasn’t backing down.
I very gently told him that anything I needed help with could wait but his appraisal was approaching very soon and I thought we needed to prioritize his needs before mine.
He finally relented.
So, yesterday I got up early, got my Maltese ready for the trip to Dallas and me and my dog spent all day at my boyfriend’s house.
He has two of my former cats at his home. Their room is the back bedroom in his house. That was the messiest room in the house because it was their room. He said we would do that room last. I suggested we tackle it first since it was going to present the biggest challenge.
We got that room looking so nice!
Then I started on other rooms in the house and got his front room, living and dining room looking pretty spectacular. He was so good at helping and we worked on each room together.
By the early evening, we quit cleaning and got dressed up to go out for a very fancy dinner at a fabulous French restaurant.
I told him I felt like Cinderella.
Then today after church I had the privilege of helping with an Easter egg hunt for special needs kids.
I sat by the craft table and handed out the crafts for most of the time, that was a blast! I slipped away for a bit and helped a young girl fill her basket with eggs. Talk about a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!
So with all of that serving, I should really think I am something special right?
Not a bit.
For one reason and that is the servant I am trying to emulate.
My role model is Jesus.
For the record, my volunteering level doesn’t even touch the hem of his garment.
PHILIPPIANS 2:5-8
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a]6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
