TRASH

I live in Fort Worth, Texas. A town well known for the rodeo and the stockyards. I love this town and the people in it but I do have a bit of a problem with the trash pick up.

You see Fort Worth is probably the most anal retentive city ever when it comes to trash. We have a blue trash can for recyclables and a brown trash can for regular trash. Then if we have any lawn clippings or brush we are supposed to buy brown bags to put those in.

One time last year they did not pick up my trash so I called the city to ask them why. They said my trash can lid was not closed properly and they had rules about that. I looked at my trash can lid and it was just about a quarter of an inch open, nothing more. I think their “rules” are ridiculous.

This year I got a couple of notices in the mail stating that I had put undesirables in the recyclable container. There is a lady who comes by every so often and, no kidding, she actually inspects the trash. So then they send you “the letter.” Makes me want to stop recycling all together.

You may think that they do everything in Fort Worth as well as they do the trash. Not so much partner. The roads when I first moved to my new house were like a third world country. Most of them were gravel and those that were asphalt were riddled with pot holes.

I called my city council person about that and all he could tell me was why he couldn’t do anything about the roads. I liked the guy so I didn’t jump all over his case but I really wanted to say, “Don’t tell me what you can’t do, tell me what you CAN do.”

I still love Fort Worth but I have come to realize that when you live in a town whose main attraction is rodeos you have a lot of bulls and where there is a lot of bulls there is even more bull____.
