THE LORD’S PRAYER – 3

After praying for God’s kingdom and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven surely it is time to put in a plea for our needs right?

Big sigh, YES! It is finally about us. We get to ask him for our daily bread. Wait a minute. Let me read that again. Just daily bread? Yep, that is it folks. Not that Lexus that you are eyeing at the dealership, nor that couch that I want to buy to replace the two I have, not that designer hand bag that has got your name on it. Nope, just daily bread.

Funny thing, when I think about my life I have worried about so many things being provided for me but daily bread has never been one of them. In reality though, there are many people who are starving in the world. Many babies who die because they are malnourished. There are homeless people who daily worry about where their meals may be coming from. That may be why most times I try to give them some money, even if I struggle to pay my bills, because their level of need is so much greater than mine is.

I would imagine that most readers of this blog have a roof over their heads, a computer or cell phone to read this blog and most likely a warm meal also. Jesus had no home, he had no computer, he did not have a Lexus and He was God. How important is all of this to us? If God did not need any of these things then why are we so attached to them?

“Give us this day our daily bread.” If we have food to eat we should be thankful. If we have anything more we should be overcome with gratitude.

Earlier today I was complaining because I did not think I had enough money to pay my bills. I have a freezer full of food and more in my frig. I have so much more than my daily bread and yet I was nervous about things which don’t really matter. All that really matters is my daily bread.
