THE LORD’S PRAYER – 2

After acknowledging God’s holiness and righteousness surely prayer should start being about me, or us, right? Not so much.

The next part of the Lord’s prayer says, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”

How are we to know His will? We could start by trying to follow the ten commandments. Those are pretty simple rules but many times Christians pick and choose which ones are easiest to follow.

It is amazing to me how many Christians think it is okay to have sex before marriage if you “love” someone. Some preachers even teach this lie. They don’t realize that marriage is a covenant agreement between two people and God and only when that covenant is entered is sex supposed to happen.

I have been guilty of this very sin, not thinking it was any big deal until I was enlightened by the Holy Spirit. So I am not condemning anyone who struggles with this, believe me, I know how hard celibacy is.

To pray for God’s kingdom to come is to pray in anticipation for the return of Christ. This is the only event which will usher in the kingdom of God. It may also be wise to live every day as if His arrival is the very next day.

God’s will can also be taking care of and ministering to the poor and needy or praying for the sick.

If you are doing good for someone else I would venture to say you may be in the midst of God’s will.

Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance though. There are many ministries I could be a part of, but I have chosen not to, because I know that God intends me to be a Christian writer. If I busy myself with ministries that others want me to be involved in, I will have scarce time to write the novels which God has laid on my heart to write.

Basically what I think this section of the Lord’s prayer implies is that prayer should not be about us but about God. Wow, have I had it wrong.
