Well Texans we have a new cowboy riding on the bull of our state. It is Greg Abbott. Of all people he is probably my least favorite in Texas because he is the former Attorney General. Anyone who has had to deal with family law issues in Texas knows how corrupt that branch of our government is. I have said in a previous post if the fruit is rotten most likely the tree is too.
I think Mr. Abbott has some interesting ideas but not all good ones. His latest gaff was comparing Texas to California and saying that that would be a bad thing. His main problem with Texans is that some of us have become so concerned about our environment that we have passed bans to protect the environment.
His quote is as follows, “This is being done at the city level with bag bans, fracking bans, tree-cutting bans. We’re forming a patchwork quilt of bans and rules and regulations that is eroding the Texas model,” the Republican governor-elect said.
The problem is that in some ways we are becoming like California. Just not the good ways. We have had 35 earthquakes in Irving, Texas since October and that may well be due to all of the fracking. Having a bag ban is not bad either it is just a way to get consumers to remember to use those cloth bags that we continually leave in our car when we go to the store. I hope that someone has a tree that is right in the path of the Keystone pipeline because when TransCanada wants to cut that tree down I think they should say that it has to be cleared through Mr. Abbott first. I know he is against tree cutting bans but if he wants to be in charge of everyone’s trees than I think we should let him take the reign on that one. I wonder if I need to clear the trimming I am doing this weekend in my backyard with him?
It strikes me as a bit ironic that a governor that runs on a platform which commonly supports reduction of government wants to start bickering with city governments about what they are doing. Seems like a bit of hypocrisy to say that you want to reduce big government regulations only to seemingly micromanage city governments.
At the best Greg Abbott will give quite a lot of fodder for sarcasm as he has already done. At the worst we will have to put up with him as long as that last cowboy we couldn’t buck off for 30 years, Rick Perry.
