It was that time of the evening for me again. The time at which I knew if I didn’t do some exercise I would not be able to sleep. My legs were getting restless which they do on a daily basis if I do not punish myself with some sort of exercise.
So I was trying to avoid the moment of pain by checking my aol mail and I noticed something on the aol news about South Sudan. Apparently there is a place in that country which has suffered a great deal of bloodshed, starvation and lack of housing due to the fact that some crazy militia burned down all of their houses.
The group, Doctors without Borders, has just arrived in the area and they are trying to save some children at least.
They didn’t make it in time to save a two year old little boy. He died in his mother’s arms the day after they came because he did not have enough to eat.
I read the article, finished a defensive driving course I was taking, then made my way to my stationary bike to give it a whirl and hope to get my legs to calm down.
While I was on the bike I got a group text message from my son in Florida who is celebrating his 20th birthday with about 40 of his friends. He texted me and his brother and sister and said he loved all of us. How sweet is that?
The text exchange went back and forth from one to another and I paused for a moment to giggle and just soak up the love.
Then I thought again about that mother who was burying her child in Sudan. He was only two years old and would never live to be twenty.
To think that my greatest consternation of the day was to have to exercise on a stationary bike in my house while watching television seemed so small and insignificant when viewed in comparison to the day and challenges that that mother was facing.
I am so thankful for all of my children and the love that we share but that doesn’t mean I don’t care and mourn for her and the tragedy of her son at the same time.
I don’t know what to do for that country, I don’t know that anyone knows what to do. They recently agreed to a cease fire which they immediately did not honor.
It is crucial that the fighting end because they need to plant their crops so that they have something to eat.
One little two year old boy lost his life in his mother’s arms due to starvation and that is one too many.
Please pray for Sudan and intercede specifically for South Sudan. Pray that God would bind up the violence and the evil in that region. Please pray that the cease fire would be honored so that the people can plant their crops and feed their children.
And one more thing…
Pray as if it was your little boy who had died of starvation.
