My kids always used to fight about who could ride shot gun in the car while I was driving. As they got older and took defensive driving classes they would always tell me what a horrible driver I was.
I get a kick out of that because if I am such a rotten driver, then why are they sitting in the front seat? In fact, why are they coming with me at all anyway? I mean they did just learn how to drive right? Is it because they have always dreamed about what it would be like to be flattened by an air bag?
Anyhoo, I suspect they may want to ride shotgun because they like me. (Hoping that is the reason).
I love hanging out with my kids and even suffer their constant criticism of my driving. For the record I agree that I can be a distracted driver, at times. I believe the reason I am still alive is because I got some awesome guardian angels and a fantastic God.
I love it when they ride shotgun but I love it even more when I have God riding shotgun. I ask Him along on most trips. (Trying to remember to extend the invitation on every trip. I am always talking to Him anyway so He might as well be sitting right next to me. I have started placing a Bible on my passenger seat to remind me that it is Him who sits beside me.
I seldom have a problem with road rage but try flipping someone off or cussing them out when God is sitting beside you. It just doesn’t work because you see He knows exactly what that person has been through who just cut in front of you. He also knows that the only way that person could possibly want Him to ride in their front seat is if they see from your life that having God ride shotgun is the only way to be fulfilled in life.
