I was reading the Bible this morning and studying Numbers 2. In this chapter of the Bible the Lord was arranging the twelve tribes of Israel.
He was very specific as to how he wanted them to travel.
In the first chapter of Numbers he had Moses take a census and count all of the men who could fight in an army. The total number of available men was 603,550. There were four camps with three tribes a piece.
What I found most interesting in this passage of the Bible is that the Levites were not counted. They were in the center of the encampment and their job was to tend to the tabernacle of meeting.
So many times churches get caught up in the Numbers game. Bragging how many members they have gained. I have also been guilty of this. I brag to my friends and family members about how well my blog is doing. This year has seen an explosive rise in subscribers. I am thankful, but the glory is to be God’s alone, not mine.
Yet, as a Christian, numbers should not be my concern. My main focus should be to guard and spread the Word of God with my blogging.
In addition, my Bibles, of which I have quite a few, should be valued as my most important possession.
My boyfriend is such a gift from God in this area of my life.
The first thing he does every morning is to rise and pray and then read the Bible. He has done this for several years and I have seen the Holy Spirit work such wonders in his life.
If God’s word was so valued in the Old Testament that it was surrounded by armies that exceeded 60,000, should it not be more so for us?
