I didn’t need or want this blessing. I don’t have any extra money for taking care of this blessing. I don’t understand why God put this blessing into my pathway but I do know that when I see a stray dog the stray dog is put in my backyard and the dog becomes a blessing.
The day I met this dog was June 12th. I was coming home from doing some shopping really quick before a storm was supposed to hit. I saw two dogs on my street, a really cute little long haired dog and a larger black and white spotted dog.
The little dog was adorable. The larger dog was a problem. The large dog would not go where I wanted it to go.
Another neighbor was out in the street and we talked about what to do with the dogs. I told him I was leaving on a trip the next day and couldn’t take them in. He said he was leaving that afternoon for a trip also. It was decided that they would stay in my backyard during my trip.
My next door neighbor was so sweet and she said that she would go into my backyard to feed the dogs since my daughter was somewhat disabled with an ankle injury.
The little white dog slipped out under the fence on the first night. I think he went back home. The other dog stayed.
I was gone for four days and the dog was still in my backyard on the fourth day when I came home. She was depressed. She was also old. Her nails were too long and I knew she had arthritis.
Another very sweet neighbor loaned me her toe nail clippers and Petsmart gave me two leashes. (BTW I absolutely LOVE Petsmart!) So I clipped her nails and started her on some cod liver oil mixed in with canned food in the morning to lessen the pain of her arthritis. I also mixed some Goldenseal powder in her food in case she had any kind of infection.
I told God I didn’t have the money for this dog as I was walking through Walmart buying food for it.
He reminded me that the last time I had gone to Petsmart I had gotten so many discounts that I was able to provide for my feline population for a very small amount of money. He implied that the reason why I had gotten all of those discounts was because He knew this dog was coming my way.
I didn’t argue. There are so many other things I think I need but for some reason God thought I needed this dog. Go figure!
After several weeks of my cod liver oil, Goldenseal and love this dog has transformed from one who was skittish and depressed to one who is a delight.
She used to bark a lot. I have changed my routine to help her stop barking. I used to have my sprinklers go in the middle of the night. She didn’t like that and would start barking at 5 am in the morning. NOT COOL!
I have very close neighbors and I love them all dearly so I turn the sprinklers off every day and when I get up I set the sprinkler system to run while I am feeding the dog inside of my house. I give her some morning love and food and then put her back outside once the sprinklers have finished.
I am still searching for her owners. She had a black collar and I am sure she is being missed. Until I find them though she will be my blessing.
It is interesting to me that initially I considered her just another burden but it is amazing how love can transform a burden into a blessing.
If anyone knows who this dog belongs to or would like to adopt this precious angel please email me at gracielynne6@aol.com. Thanks!
