My mother was amazing. She was beautiful, creative and a very hard worker. She always made life interesting and my memories of my childhood have taken on such charm because of her wonder.

One of the things my mother did perfectly was cooking. She not only cooked but she also had her own vegetable garden. I remember going outside as a little girl and seeing her battle the Nebraska soil with her roto tiller before she planted the seeds for her garden.

Some of my favorite memories of my childhood revolved around meals on the farm. Occasionally in the summertime when the weather was mild and warm my mother would say we were having a picnic.

A picnic on the farm was a delightful event. She or Dad would grill hamburgers and she would have all of the fixings to grace the hamburger patty. Then there would be chips and lemonade and usually either watermelon of some other kind of yummy fruit. I think we usually had cookies or brownies or something like that for dessert.

The hamburgers were the best because they were grilled. There is nothing better tasting than a perfectly grilled hamburger and my mother was a perfect cook.

I have done some grilling for my family also but it is hard for just one person to grill. You really need two people to pull off perfection with a grill meal. One to tend the grill and one to prepare the rest of the meal indoors. So it is a bit frustrating for me if my boyfriend (who is the second best chef in the world) is not present.
