The problem with propaganda in the political arena is that it is seldom based on fact. Propaganda plays on the emotions of the public and strikes a cord in them which is not based on intellectual reasoning.
American politicians are some of the best at spreading propaganda.
When my Mother notified me of her concern regarding the Keystone pipeline, I thought she was a bit histrionic. So I started researching and collecting facts on the Keystone pipeline and then I became full blown histrionic about this danger. lol
I became more than histrionic though, I became an activist. I called the state department, the EPA, the Nebraskan governor and every other person I could think of and gave them my opinion on this threat to our country.
I even sent a letter to the President. He sent me a letter back which did not address the Keystone pipeline issue. Typical response from a politician, he is not the first politician that I have received a letter like that from.
For the record I think Obama has handled this hot potato with class and caution. I just hope he makes the right final decision in this matter.
Meanwhile I kept tapping in occasionally to the news. I kept hearing the Republicans saying that this pipeline would solve our economy woes. It would create jobs!
Well, we all want jobs don’t we? But the job estimates keep changing, it is one number one day and another number the next.
Most of the jobs would be temporary and we are not talking 20,000 jobs as TransCanada claims. More like 1,950 jobs would be the correct number and mind you those are temporary jobs.
How many permanent jobs would it create? 35 permanent jobs to monitor the pipeline.
If there is a leak in the aquifer we are talking 2.3 million people who can not drink their water, a decimation of the heartland of America, possible famine from the catastrophic domino effect that would happen if our heartland could not support farming.
That is a lot to put on the line for the employment of 35 people.
Factual information in this post was extracted from an article by Van Jones on the CNN truth-o-meter article which was posted on February 3,2014. I would encourage you to google Keystone pipeline jobs and look at this article it is very well written and fact based.
