JUST LISTEN

Have you ever had a time in your life when you feel like you have something important to say but the person you need to say it to does not listen?

I am currently in a situation like that at my job. My boss does not listen to her employees and when we speak up she gets angry and defensive. Then she tries to push those who dare speak their minds out of the company.

I wish she would listen to us because if she would, the company could benefit from a collective amount of wisdom and she would be a much better boss.

I have been very frustrated when I have talked to her. If I come to her with a problem I am having she always tells me her problems are worse. She goes on and on about her problems and I do believe she has not even heard my complaint. I leave feeling dejected, for not only has my problem not been solved but I am worried now about her problems. It is quite the quagmire.

I avoid talking to my boss anymore. She is still a friend of mine but I don’t enjoy our conversations so I walk a wide berth around her. When I have something to say I put it in writing and send it in an email to her. That way I don’t have to listen to her tale of woes and I usually get the point across that I want to make.

As I was thinking about this I was reflecting on how God must feel when we don’t listen. in the Old Testament days he talked to one person, a prophet, and had them write down His instructions. The ten commandments were so important they were written on two pieces of stone. Still the Israelite’s would not listen. God kept revealing himself to the prophets but the people would not listen.

When Jesus came, people flocked to Him. Everyone wanted to hear His stories. They traipsed after Him like He was a rock star. The reason why Jesus used parables to teach his followers was because I think he knew that people don’t really listen to instruction. So He told stories which would cause them to engage their reasoning in addition to their hearing. The meaning of the stories would be revealed only to those who contemplated and meditated on the story.

When Jesus went to heaven He said He had to go to allow the comforter to come down. This is the Holy Spirit. When the veil in the temple was split, the Spirit of God was to be revealed to anyone who seeks Him and who believes in Jesus.

I wonder how many times God wishes I would just listen.
