It is not very often that I find an author that I truly like and less often that I abandon that author on ethical principle. Catherine Ryan Hyde is an author who fits this description in my life.
I don’t remember which book I read of hers first, she has written 25, and I read a couple of them. I thought she was a very engaging writer and I enjoyed her books so much that I took my kindle everywhere with me while reading her prose.
After reading a few of her well written books I realized that she never portrayed single mothers in a favorable light. They were always either drug addicts or basically inept at life.
So after realizing this I stopped purchasing her books on a matter of principle. I get fed up with the discrimination and prejudice that single parents must endure and I will not support this idiocy in any way.
Nonetheless when the Affiliate Summit offered a “Pay it forward” scholarship, I was all in. I applied for the scholarship and then promptly forgot about it. I was overjoyed when I won the scholarship and made arrangements to fly to New York City to attend the event.
Just the other day I was thinking that although Ms. Hyde does not have respect for single mothers because she wrote the book “Pay it forward,” I have a chance to go to a summit which can help me be more successful.
How ironic that an author who constantly portrays single mothers in a very unflattering light has written a book which is the name of the scholarship which is blessing this single mother.
I don’t know if I will read any more of her books, there are better authors to read but I may just read “Pay it forward” while flying to New York City.
