BEING ON HOLD WITH ONE TRAVEL

A couple of days ago I had to call One Travel to reserve a car for an upcoming trip to visit my parents. I was put on hold.

I waited and waited and waited.

I listened to obnoxious music for what was close to an hour.

Why on earth do companies play such horrible music to people when they are on hold. Do they not know about Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble’ or Rosemary Clooney?

I would have enjoyed being on hold if they had better music taste.

Thank God I had my blue tooth on because I am not a patient person by nature.

I had myself a little talk while I was waiting.

I reminded myself that the person who would finally pick up the phone and put in my reservation was most likely not the CEO of One Travel.

He/she was not responsible for the wait time. So to give them a piece of my mind was like trying to win a football game by diving in a pool. It just wouldn’t have done any good.

I was very polite when I finally heard a voice.

At the end of the call the representative asked me if I was pleased with the service and I said “It took a long time to get to you but it was worth it, just to talk to you.”

I could hear the smile in the young man’s voice as we closed the conversation.

I have learned that customer service representatives are people who feel emotions and to unload my anger on them like I used to, is just not right.

In a small way I feel as if I extended God’s grace to that customer service representative.

Was it fair for me to be placed on hold for close to an hour?

No.

In the scheme of life though I consider it unimportant event.

In relation to all of the sins I have committed against a holy God it didn’t even qualify for entry in the competition.

When you look at who God is and what He has done for us, grace for others is a natural and easy measure to pour out.

  1. I really wanted to respond to this 20 minutes ago but I fell off my chair laughing and it has taken me that long to get back up. When I find myself in these types of situations I just say to myself ‘why do you think they call it work”
