Psalms 1 starts out with a list of don’ts….
“Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.”
Apparently God has the “peer pressure” problem covered in this passage. Those we surround ourselves with, will be whom we become.
This is not a problem for me. I was an outcast in junior and senior high school and was horribly bullied so being a part of the “in” crowd as an adult just doesn’t have any lure. In fact I get a bit suspicious when people like me. lol
Then comes the do’s…
“But this person’s delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law He meditates day and night.”
Then comes the reward for doing the do’s.
“This person shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in its season. Whose leaf also shall not wither.”
Ok now this is beginning to rock my socks off.
If I delight in reading God’s word I am guaranteed that I will have everything I need because what does a tree need to grow?
Water. (Yes, I know sunshine is needed too but that seems to be a given.)
That is not all either. I will bring forth fruit. This fruit for God’s kingdom will be ripe fruit. Fruit that is tasty and nutritious for those who are hungry for God’s word.
That means I can stop beating myself up for not getting my novel finished ten years ago. The simple fact is that it wasn’t the right time to release the novel. God is in control and when it is the right time that fantastic novel will be written and released.
I am basically sowing a seed for that novel by blogging daily because the more people God brings to my blog the more potential buyers I will have for that novel.
Ok, now here is the crescendo to this passage.
“And whatever this person does shall prosper.”
Yep. You got it. That is a promise. Stay away from nasty people, meditate on God’s law and His word and you got the promise of prosperity.
I am so in on this deal.
It is interesting that I was so getting this and then God lead me to a book written by Charles Swindoll entitled “Hope Again”.
In this book it examines the life of the Ephesians which were persecuted for their faith.
Kind of eliminates my idea that my prosperity is tied to my works doesn’t it?
Sheesh, I am so blind sometimes.
