GENDER HYPOCRISY IN THE “3 DAYS TO KILL” MOVIE

I attended the movie “Three days to kill” with a friend of mine and I found it very disconcerting as to the gender bias that is so prevalent in society.

First off this man, Kevin Costner, leaves his family for his career and drops out of sight for several years because he is working on “secret” missions for the government.

Then the poor guy gets this horrible disease and is about to die and all of a sudden his family becomes important to him. So he hobbles on back and gets reintroduced to his daughter and his wife jumps back into bed with him.

Only thing is he doesn’t die. No, someone has a syringe which can cure this disease if he will just do some more killing for the government.

Which of course he does and meanwhile he is trying to get his teenage daughter to ride bike. I guess he failed to teach her how to do that when she was a toddler, which was before he left on those darn “secret” missions.

Okay this girl is 15 or 16 years old. Wake up, Kevin! You need to buy her a car, you narcissistic jerk!

Meanwhile he is getting these injections which apparently prolong his life from a very hot young woman who wants to bed him. His wife is beautiful but not next to the young eye candy. He is a good man though and says “No, to the hot woman.”

Eventually he kills enough people and gets better from the injections and it is happily ever after with his family.

Okay do an experiment with this movie plot and change genders here.

You have a woman who is extremely gifted in international intelligence and the government wants her to go undercover. The government needs her to abandon her family for a secret mission which may take several years to accomplish.

Problem is she has this adorable daughter who worships the ground she walks on.

So she leaves and she can’t really explain why she isn’t there to her three year old daughter because three year olds just don’t understand waking up when one parent has decided to leave.

But she’s a “good” Mommy, she watches home videos of her daughter every chance she can. She doesn’t ever call except Christmas and Birthday and then sometimes forgets the birthday.

All of a sudden she has this horrible disease and she tries to come back into her daughter’s life.

First of all, I bet you that her husband would not be alone. If he was he would probably slam the door in her face.

What if he missed her and welcomed her back in? I doubt if he would make love to her again, especially if she had a hot young hunk that was giving her “shots” to keep her alive.

Through all of this abandonment and drama that her mother has put her through this daughter works through some of the anger and then opens her heart back up to her mother. They are reunited as a happy family.

First all we have a term for women that would do that to their children. I believe that specific term starts with a b an ends with an h.

According to “3 days to kill” a man who does this to his adorable daughter is to be regarded as a hero.

This kind of nonsense is what the feminist movement should be attacking, not unborn children.

In my experience as a single mother I was blessed to have a man who was very involved with his children. I don’t care for him being my ex-husband but my children love him as their Dad.

It is so important to not abandon your children for any reason. Sometimes staying in their lives is a heart wrenching ordeal because of the manipulation of a narcissistic ex but being a parent is never about us. It is always about them.

  1. Oh my! I find as much “gender bias” in your post as in the movie! You automatically assume all the worst stereo types for men and assume them to be fundamentally true.

We have both men and women going on missions for the Government all the time, it’s called, the Army, or Marines, what ever… They spend many years, both men and women away from home and sacrifice much for our Nation. Most do return to their family’s, but there are broken family’s on both sides, women who find another man while their husband is overseas and also men who find other women while their wife is over seas. Neither is acceptable, tho some is inevitable as the human heart is not infallible. But to assume one gender will automatically violate their vows is to take up the mantle of bias that you dislike.
