FELLOWSHIP

My friend, Jon, had asked if anyone in the group wanted to open their home for fellowship meetings.

I had gone to one of these meetings. I found them to be delightful at someone else’s home. Just not mine.

It wasn’t that I didn’t like the people in this group. I loved each one of them.

It was that I didn’t think my house was good enough to have company over. Well, let me be honest about that…my house is good enough but I didn’t think it was clean enough for others. My carpet is ten years old and the flooring in my house needs to be replaced.

The least favorite activity that I do every day is to clean my house. I only clean the downstairs. The upstairs is cleaned for company only.

So I stayed in my little cage of self-criticism thinking I was not good enough. Then I saw a post that Jon put on Facebook which said, “You’re more than enough.”

That unlocked my cage and I started tentatively taking baby steps out of my cage. I wrestled with this for several weeks before I finally gave in and told Jon I would offer my home for the Fellowship.

I was dreading it until the day it happened. I woke up with so much joy that day I didn’t know what to do with myself. I had a smile on my face as I was cleaning and setting out the treats and cake I had made to share with the gang.

Some of the guests started to arrive early, so I got a chance to spend time one on one with my friend, Angela. Soon others started trickling in and the house became alive with chatting and laughing. More than one mentioned how beautiful my home was.

One of my besties, Brenda, bought a book from me and another wonderful friend, Lorenzo, discussed the plot line with me. He had bought the Kindle version. This support for God’s calling on my life lifted my spirits so high.

One of the most wonderful aspects of these fellowships is the leader, Jon. He is led by the Holy Spirit so nothing is ritualistic or routine. Last night after we all sat and talked for a while, he asked if anyone needed prayer. Several of us asked for prayer and then we laid hands on each other and prayed for each other. Jon’s prayers are so Holy Spirit directed that you feel as if a sermon is tucked inside the prayer.

I was so happy during this fellowship it took me till 2 am to finally get to sleep and that was after cleaning up the kitchen and doing twenty minutes of yoga.

The wonderful Fellowship was last night and this morning I woke up with so much thankfulness.

I looked at my home with a new perspective. This was now a home which can be used to glorify God. When you have a home that you live in, it is your place to stay. But when you open your doors to minister to others, it becomes a sanctuary for God’s Spirit to reside. You have no idea how thankful I am for my beautiful home now.
