This weekend was a blast! I went to the moving “Heaven is for Real” and would go again in a heart beat. It was wonderful!
Then I went over to Dallas with my boyfriend and we attended a funeral for his best friend’s mother. That was such an inspiring and wonderful ceremony and truly honored the memory of a fantastic lady.
Next we went out for a bite to eat and then got ready for a wine walk in his neighborhood.
Silly me, I took a crochet jacket along to wear over my sun dress and by the time that the wine was served at the first house my boyfriend was holding it. I should have known better I mean after all it was the end of May and I live in Texas. (Whatever was I thinking?)
Well after we had mingled a bit at the second house we decided to take a bit of a jaunt back to his house so I could take a potty break and we could drop off the jacket.
While at his house my mouth became a bit off center and I let some profanity slip out. He gently corrected me on my choice of words and we went out the door.
While on his porch he dropped his wine glass and then yelled out at the top of his lungs a profane phrase so loud that it stopped a whole group of people who were a block away from his house.
I could have said,”You are such a hypocrite. You just told me not to use profane words and then you not only use them but scream them at the top of your lungs all because of a silly broken wine glass.”
I didn’t do that though, instead, I busted out in giggles. Then he proceeded to use the exact phrase which he had previously told me not to use. That caused me to bust out even more in giggles.
As we walked down the stairs of his front porch I finally got a hold of myself and knew that I needed to comfort him because he was still upset. So on the way back to the wine walk house I spoke words of comfort and told him I was sure they would give him another glass. (They did with no problem, awesome people that they are.)
We finished up at that house and went on to the third and last house which was a super fine mansion which could fit right in with any house in the Hamptons.
We had a great and fun time all evening long and on the way home I was giggling so hard about his earlier slip of profanity that I could not even catch my breath. Seriously it was so funny!
The evening was a blast and so much fun and I enjoyed it tremendously but it could have turned out differently if I had responded to his weakness for profanity with condemnation.
I knew if I did so I would fit the definition of a hypocrite since I have a weakness for profanity also.
I think it is wise not to condemn but rather to comfort others and to encourage them with love.
I feel that this may be how Jesus would have handled it and He was anything but a hypocrite.
I can guarantee Jesus did not attract the thousands of followers that He attracted without being able to make them giggle every now and then. I know personally I have never giggled when faced with condemnation from another who thinks they are better than me.
