DAILY BREAD

In my former post I pointed out the fact that we can ask God for our daily bread. This morning as I was reading through the Bible I came upon the passage in John 6:35 where Jesus states that He is the bread of life.

This passage followed Him feeding a great multitude with just five loaves of bread and two small fish. The multitude was impressed. They were so impressed they were talking about making Him their King.

What was Jesus’ response? He withdrew to a mountain to be alone. His disciples had to flee also. They all jumped in a boat and went back to Capernaum without Jesus. After Jesus had some time in solitude (which I believe was His way to connect with His Father, God) he caught up with the disciples. This was when He walked on water and joined them in the boat.

They spent the night in Capernaum and in the morning everyone on the other side of the see was wondering just what had happened. They saw the disciples leave in a boat but they knew that Jesus had not left with him. Where was this man who had just fed them loads of fish and bread? After a bit of lively discussion they came to a consensus. The best way to find Jesus was to find his disciples, so they went to Capernaum and found Jesus with his disciples.

When they arrived in Capernaum they asked Jesus, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

Jesus did not answer that question because He knew their hearts. They were more worried about their daily bread than how he got to Capernaum. He replied, “Most assuredly I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.” Then he went on to say, “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

So my friends in this passage it appears as if God understands our need to be fed. He knows we like to eat but He seeks for us to believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, for He truly yearns to feed us for eternity.
