I am not by nature one who has an organized closet. That is due to my personality type which is Sanguine and in addition to that I also have a touch of ADHD.

It is not that I don’t like an organized closet for I do. It is just that on most days it is the last thing on my list of priorities.

Twice a year though I tear my closet apart and reorganize, checking all of my clothing for stains which have been hidden and mending which needs to be done. I usually do this in late spring and autumn.

This past week was my week of attack on my closet. When I looked in my storage containers under my bed I noticed that all of my shorts had become discolored with a white film. (I think that may have been the fabric softener leaving its mark) So of course I had to wash them all and I still have to iron them and some of my white pants.

Most of my other summer wear was just fine and I merely moved it from one side of the closet to the other side. My closet is spacious and I keep thinking if I could just do with less clothes I could make it into another room. That thought usually passes quickly because I sincerely like clothes and I really don’t need another room.

However, my closet does present several challenges.

One of the problems I have is that I have way too many suitcases and I don’t go on near enough trips. I read in a magazine that it is possible to use suitcases as storage containers. I liked that idea. So I have put my extra towels, picture frames and supplies in suitcases and stored them on the shelves above my clothes.

Another problem that I have is my purses. I swear I have so many purses and I don’t even buy purses. Most of my purses have been given to me by my friends and my lovely daughter. (Well, okay my lovely daughter didn’t actually give me the purses. She gave them to me for a garage sale and I just decided they would look better in my closet, okay?)

Well last year I was frustrated with my abundance of purses and I decided I was going to buy a coat rack to put them on. Which I did and that darn coat rack with purses ate up a great deal of space in my closet. (Which is not a good thing)

So this year I moved that coat rack, which seriously looks like a purse tree, into my foyer, right by my front door. I have a vertical window by my front door and it has always bothered my daughter that people can look into our house from the street.

If anyone can see through that window now I would give them a medal because there are just too many purses to see through.

I had another coat rack that I bought last year which I needed to put to use and I put my brassieres on that. It is so much easier to just pull one of those lovelies off of a coat rack in my closet than to go digging through a dresser drawer for them.

All in all I was quite pleased with myself and my organizational skills regarding my closet and I hope that this time I can keep it clean.
