CHOOSING A CHARITY

As the holidays approach, choosing a charity may be on quite a few minds. I have my special charities picked out.

When choosing a charity I try to spread it around a bit. On some income, I tithe to the church. My church is not in any way hurting for money. So, with other income, I choose to give outside of the church.

I have never made much money but I have always been very generous.

I do vet my charities though.

One of the charities I give to is a charity for children at the St Joseph’s Indian school. I received some Christmas labels and gift tags from them last year.I quit my job last August and had made next to nothing when I received these items in the mail. I knew it was a step of faith when I sent them money. However, I didn’t think it was right to use those items without helping support the children.

I didn’t know how to vet this charity though.

So I prayed about it.

On the ride to the airport with the tenant that is renting a room from me I got my answer.

He said his dad had grown up on this reservation and life was difficult. The poverty on this reservation was overwhelming. By this time I was very impressed with the young man who had rented a guest room from me. I had suspected he had Native American heritage because of his name but I didn’t want to press him on it unless it came up naturally in conversation.

Having this young man stay in my home was an answer to my prayer. He is such good quality that I know his dad had to be quality also. If I can support more young Native American children and they turn out as good as this family has, I think it is all good. https://singleparents.dfwhostingwebsites.com/airbnb/
