AS CHILDREN OF GOD

I was reading in one of my devotionals today the passage from 2:41-50 where Jesus is being the typical preteen, trying to escape the parents. lol

Mary and Joseph were on the way home from a Passover festival in Jerusalem when they realized that Jesus had not decided to go home. I am thinking Mary and Joseph would have been thankful for an Amber alert if they would have had it.

Not having the Amber alert, cell phones and/or television, they had to make the trek back to Jerusalem. It took them three days to find him. Can you imagine the fear that they felt? I doubt they slept much.

Understandably they were not pleased with the behavior of Jesus and Mary gave him a talking to. She asked Jesus, “why He had done this to them?”

He had a very unusual answer, “Did you not know I must be about my Father’s business?”

Apparently this was a traumatic event for everyone involved because it says in the Bible from that point on Jesus was obedient to his earthly parents.

While in the temple Jesus amazed the religious elite. He asked questions and shared His wisdom.

The thing that I find amazing is that at 12 years old Jesus knew without a doubt that He had to do His Father’s business. At 51 years of age I still many times think I have to do business for others, pleasing them, instead of God.

If we are children of God through the sacrifice of His son, is it not of utmost importance that we be “about our Father’s business?”
