BUDGET MINDED

I must say that I was budget minded as a single mother. I didn’t get much child support and I always put my kids in front of my career. Somehow my bosses didn’t like that, so I didn’t have a lot of money.

When I had been married, my husband had refused to let me buy any new clothes. So when he left one of my favorite things to do was shop for clothes. I had been wearing the same clothes for over ten years while being married to him.

I had a rule though. If anything was over 30$ I would walk away. Doesn’t mean I didn’t go back though.

There was one velvet black dress that had a fabulous coat to go with it. I really wanted that. It was originally priced at over 100$. I kept going back until they dropped it down to 30$. I snatched that outfit up like it was going out of style, paid for it and transported it straight to my closet.

I remember when my daughter was in junior high and high school. She was watching shows on TV which were about kids in New York City who were fabulously wealthy. She gave me a hard time because I couldn’t afford to indulge her like their parents did.

I told her I was sorry but I didn’t have the funds to fly her to the Hamptons every weekend.

She is now a young lady and just recently got married. I took her out for her Birthday last week and she was sharing with me how some of her friends were blowing money. Her husband and her are diligently putting money aside so that they can buy a house before they have children. I was so proud of her.
My sons are also very wise with money.

All three of my children have worked hard to get into college. They had to pay their own way because I could not afford to do so.

I think that my children were raised differently than some in the media.

I would reckon to say that Felicity Huffman and Lori Laughlin could learn a thing or two about parenting techniques.
