A TRIP BACK HOME

Last week I had to travel to Nebraska to visit my family. My dad was recently put on hospice and they said he had taken a turn for the worse. I love my dad so much that I immediately started packing for the road trip.

I arrived Saturday evening and although I would have liked to attend my brother’s church the next morning I had to take Sunday to recuperate from the trip.

I promised him I would go with him on Wednesday. So he picked me up on Wednesday night and on the way he got a call from his lawyer with some very upsetting news.

His wife of thirty five years is divorcing him. She is now intent upon trying to get some of the family farm, in addition to some of his net worth. It was clear by the response that he had to his lawyer that the call was very upsetting to him.

I don’t personally know if I would have gone to church after getting a call like that but my brother grabbed his Bible firmly and walked into the church with me.

When the pastor asked if anyone had a prayer request my brother didn’t say a word about the phone call. The pastor’s wife shared that her brother was not doing well in his fight against bone cancer.

The Pastor’s wife, Faith, is one of my favorite women in that small town and I wanted to make sure I talked with her after the sermon. My brother said he also wanted to talk with her. I expected him to mention the phone call that he had received before the service but once again not a word was said about his horrific divorce. He instead asked Faith about her brother and expressed concern over the pain her brother was experiencing.

The more my brother endures this trial of divorce, the more I see him transform into a man of Christ. Sometimes the greatest character is formed through the most heart wrenching of circumstances.

Please pray for my brother and also the brother of his pastor’s wife. They are both enduring tremendous pain: one man is suffering physical pain and the other is suffering tremendous heartache.

    1. Thank you! Please pray for me also. I gave my two weeks notice at my job last Friday. They were charging me close to 800$ per month for my insurance and I had a paycheck of 305$. I need a change in my life. I am close to releasing my novel and hoping that the publisher I chose is honest in how they pay out royalties. I want to walk away from nursing so bad.

      1. Sorry for the delay! I totally understand how you feel. I pray that both of us will be blessed so we can walk away from nursing and into our futures as authors. Did you find a publisher that will pay you to write? I pray that we can both find one.

        1. Actually, I would prefer to self-publish. That way God can maintain control over what I write. The press I am currently working with on my upcoming novel, The Shattered Vase, cost me a bit of money but the royalty payback is greater than most other vanity presses. How did you publish your novel?

          1. That is a shame and that is one of my worst fears regarding self-publishing. Was it a Christian publishing house? I have been warned of some that propose to be Christians but are nothing but dishonest. I am hoping the one I chose is honest and pays correctly. This is not my hobby. This is now my occupation and I need to establish an income stream. I will keep you in prayer. I believe you retain the rights if it is self-published. Could you possibly rerelease it with another publishing firm?

          2. Not sure about all the tricks of the trade. I hope to one day have an income stream too so we can both be released from our nursing careers. We will have to talk soon.

          3. Yes! I wanted to throw out some ideas for advertising for you. Yesterday I hired a lady to take care of my animals while I was on vacation. She had a magnet on the side of her car which was an advertisement for her business. I had seen them before on Vistaprint and thought about getting some done for my car.(Advertising my novel of course) Then I thought about the trip I will be taking in November. I will be driving from Texas to Florida. I am going to get the magnets designed and put them on my car for that trip. Not only will that advertise for my book but I will also deduct the cost of that trip because I am basically driving a billboard for my book on that trip. I don’t know if your need for anonymity would prevent you from doing this or not.

          4. How would you like to talk? Do you want to email me and then on that platform I could give my phone number? Because as soon as I approve this reply, everyone on my blog can read this comment. I would prefer my phone number remain private.

          5. I don’t know if you have been following my blog as of late but I have released my first novel. I would appreciate your support as I supported you when you released your novel. I hope you are healthy and happy and have a Merry Christmas!

          6. Hi Gracie! I emailed you but not sure if you got it. Can you send me you email again. I plan to get a copy of your book and would love to talk to you about it. God bless you and your book, my sweeet sister!
