A SUNDAY STROLL

Today I decided to take a Sunday stroll. I did something unusual, I wore slippers instead of tennis shoes on my walk. They are not any kind of slippers though, they are kind of like an UGG boot and slipper combined. I have been nursing some corns on my feet and my tennis shoes seem to irritate the corns. So it was a slipper stroll day for me.

I usually call friends and family when I am walking and was on a call with my mom when I saw the young family. A Dad and two young children were walking their dog. I stopped to pet the dog and said “hello” then kept walking.

I continued my conversation and was just about to start the last leg of my walk when I heard someone yelling behind me. I turned around and saw the young Dad running after the dog, his children trailing behind. The dog almost got hit by a car as it was sprinting towards a patch of land that was by a brook.

I ended the phone conversation with my mom saying, “I got to go catch a dog, Mom” and took off. I asked the Dad if he needed any help and he said “Yeah, if you can.” By this time the dog had already jumped over the brook and as soon as the Dad and kids jumped over the brook the dog jumped right back over the brook again and was back in my territory which was the patch of land.

I started running trying to catch the dog but I knew I couldn’t do it in those slippers so I kicked them off and the dog flew right past me then stopped, and did a double take, “SLIPPERS! OMG SLIPPERS!” I could hear the dog think. That dog turned around so fast it was hilarious and pretty soon my slipper was in his mouth and his leash was in my hand. I returned the dog to the owners and received thanks all around.

Sometimes I just know that God is in control and sometimes it is in the small things like wearing slippers on a stroll instead of tennis shoes. God is good even in the small things but if that precious puppy would have been run over in front of those cherished children it would have been a big thing and it wouldn’t have been pretty. I have never been so thankful for slippers than I was today.

    1. It was a very cute incident that I was so blessed to be a part of. So glad I was there and God was involved because if that dog would have gotten run over by a car it would have been a tragedy. I can not stand for little children to cry and this is not the first time I have prevented children from crying while on a walk. I am so hoping that someday God will grant me the privilege of working with children who are in dire need. hopefully orphans.
