The Shattered Vase

This is the 7th day I have released chronological excerpts from my novel, The Shattered Vase.  I hope you have enjoyed reading it.

“Psycho” might now be an understatement for how Suzie felt. All
of her “psycho” suspicions had been confirmed. Her first impulse
was to burn the comforter and the drapes, and rip the safari border
off the walls. How dare Joe make their bedroom into a shrine for his
mistress. The nerve of him!
Suzie paced back and forth in her kitchen. No, if she did that,
she would be adding fuel to the fire. She had to calm down. Think
rationally. Maybe this was a phase, something Joe was doing because
of a mid-life crisis.
Although the secretary insinuated that Joe and Megan were more
than coworkers, that didn’t mean it was true. The secretary’s IQ was
probably somewhere under fifty.
How do I handle this? Do I confront Joe? Do I ignore this and
hope it will disappear? Or do I poke fun at it and try to demean the
situation. Hmmm, that is an idea. Yes, I will make fun of the décor
and mock the relationship that Joe and Megan have formed.
So, make fun of it, she did. She regaled her friends with stories
from “Joe’s jungle.” This avenue of release helped her dissipate the
anger that she had felt when conversing with Joe’s secretary.
She was talking to her friend, Hope, when she said she felt like
she needed to sleep with a rifle under her pillow. A hideous monster
might come after her during the still of the night.
