One of the reasons why I invited my friend from Florida to see me last week was because of a fabulous airshow. It was at the Alliance Airport. The show boasted several different teams of precision pilots. I love precision flying and airshows. So I was looking forward to this event for many days.
The man from Florida was not only a liar but he was also a cheapskate. Currently, I have walked away from nursing to pursue my writing which means I have no income at all. So, I admit, I am a bit of a cheapskate also.
When I told this man what the parking cost for this event was, he hit the roof. He agreed that we could watch the planes at a distance and save the money on parking.
I know as the hostess I should have paid the 35$ to park. I felt bad about this but not too bad because years back when I met this guy he lied. His dating profile said he was an oil executive. He came clean when I first talked with him but I figured I would hold him to his “oil executive” level of income.
So I parked on a street next to the airshow. I got out on the median and watched the planes fly over. My friend walked on down the street and watched from a parking lot. Soon I joined him in the parking lot.
He told me I should bring my car into the parking lot. I said, “There are orange cones blocking this lot off for a reason and police officers are starting to buzz around here like bees on honey.”
That is when he blew up and started cussing me out. He was yelling profanity at me for worrying too much. He said “F___ the police. I will pay the ticket if you get one.” He continued to point out that the parking lot had several cars with people in them and they were not getting tickets.
Problem with that is, he was leaving in a couple of days. I would be stuck with the ticket no matter what. The other problem I had was his choice of words. If you cuss me out, that is a deal breaker. I do not deserve that.
When I revisited this scene in my mind it took on a humorous bent. Once he started screaming at me about the police you should have seen how quickly that parking lot emptied of cars.
Thank God I did not agree to marry this jerk. It was a tough six days of being a considerate hostess to him but six days is small change when compared to a lifetime of misery.
