I didn’t think it would ever happen. I grew up with a mother who swears she never did anything wrong. She could spill a bucket of water in the kitchen and if there was a child of hers within the next county, she would blame that spilled bucket of water on that child.
She always thought she had everything right in her mind and would argue endlessly to prove her point.
The unthinkable happened the other day. She actually had to admit she was wrong about someone.
That someone happened to be our President. Yep! Barack Obama.
She was dead set against the Keystone Pipeline and was intelligent enough to figure out the Republicans were lying about what it could all do for our country. So every time she was putting down the President I reminded her that he would most likely veto that bill.
At first she said he was against the Keystone pipeline just to get elected. Then when he got elected she said he would probably pass it. She said he was stubborn and hard headed and arrogant as well.
I kept telling her to give the guy a break because he has really been totally awesome on environmental issues and he would probably come through on this one too. Then she brought up everything else that she thought he had done wrong. Blah, blah, blah.
Well the President just vetoed the Keystone pipeline recently. Those in the Midwest, who have farmland on top of the Ogallala Aquifer, can breathe a big sigh of relief. That is if they have brains enough to realize that steel pipe was gonna bust and ruin their livelihood.
So today when she started ranting about our President I reminded her that his hardheadedness worked in our favor on this bill. If he hadn’t been stubborn he would have caved in to those lying Republicans.
He vetoed the bill on a matter of policy. If anyone read my post a couple of days ago entitled, “There once was a house” you would realize that I attacked him for being too set on policy and procedure in relation to Netanyahu’s visit.
So not only did our President prove my Mama wrong but the good man proved me wrong also. Kind of like killing two birds with one stone. Dagnabit. It took my Mama 84 years to be finally proven wrong and I crossed the finish line in that race at near 50 years old.
