A GIFT OF WORDS

While in New York City I stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania. It was lovely, so lovely in fact that I left a gift.

I did not know how old the hotel was until I went on an adventure to find the gym which was on the 19th floor. That was interesting because none of the elevators even went up to the 19th floor.

To find the gym you could take the elevator up to the 18th floor and then walk up the stairs to the gym on the 19th floor.

While on the 18th floor I was captivated by some of the pictures which were displayed of the hotel’s history. Apparently it was something special in it’s day and in my mind it still had that special quality, mostly because it was well kept up.

The hotel was magnificent in so many ways. The lobby was superb with different little shops and sitting areas breathing an electric energy into the hotel. The room was efficient, a bed, a desk and a suitable bathroom were included.

The aspect of staying at the hotel which impressed me above all others was the maid service. The was one thing that they did which showed their attention to detail. They placed the book that I was reading on the perfectly made bed. They placed the book upside down and kept my place in the book so I wouldn’t have to search through the book trying to remember where in heck I had left off.

I wanted to do something for them which showed them I appreciated them but I didn’t have the money to tip them. So I left them a little thank you note. I felt bad that I couldn’t leave money but when I thought about it today I realized that the words that I wrote would stay in their heart. That is something they can carry with them and keep remembering on days when someone is rude. They can tape it to their mirror in the morning to remind them that they are valuable. They can show it to their spouse to build their value in their spouses eyes.

The gift of kind words and a thank you does not cost a penny but it can last a lifetime. Money spent only lasts as long as what you spend the money on. I hope everyone who reads this post uses their words as a gift. Even more I hope you notice the people who may not get many good gifts and lavish them with kind words.
