POLICY AND PROCEDURE

Oh, my goodness, I started a new job today and I read through the policy and procedure manual for the company.

It was so boring that I was tempted to play Solitaire on my cell phone and just tell them I read it. I mean after all they were sweet enough to put me in a back office to read it. They wouldn’t have known. (I didn’t though, I was good)

It was very hard to focus on the mammoth book. It was about 1,000 pages long but there was a lot of white space so it was easy to speed read.

I got through it all and left before midnight. lol Actually I was done by four pm.

It kind of reminded me of going to church when I was a little girl. I would sit in my pew and ask Mom for the bulletin. Then I would color in all of the circles in the bulletin. When I got done with that I would start to count the circles in the ceiling tile of the church.

I remember thinking how magnificent our church seemed. What I don’t remember is a bit of the sermons I was supposed to listen to.

I know that there is no real way to make policy and procedure fun. It is meant to be precise and in that measure is extremely boring but it serves a very needed purpose.

Church can sometimes seem the same. Precise, needed and boring.

I am thankful that I no longer have to color in the circles on my bulletin and I don’t even know if my current church has circle in their ceiling tile. I can still remember the points from the last service I attended which was over a week ago.

My pastor is good about weaving humor into his sermon but he is even better about integrating the word of God into his preaching. He keeps me interested and hungering for more of God’s word.

I wish I could say that I was hungry for more policies and procedures but I think I have had my fill. I hope I stay at this company a long time because they seem really nice and I don’t really ever want to read another P&P manual again.
