In other posts I have written I have alluded to sin being something which we choose to do which causes us to “miss the mark.”
That doesn’t seem so bad but it has the potential to draw us out of fellowship with God and become an idol in our life.
I knew a woman once who had fallen in love with a man. Problem was this man was not her husband.
She stayed married but her heart was not in the marriage. Her children became painfully aware that they were not the cause of the infrequent sparkle in her eye. She lit up like a flame when she talked about the man who had stolen her heart.
In the process of misplacing her love she failed to cherish the blessings of a wonderful home, beautiful children and a husband who provided for her every whim and wish.
She did the duties of a good wife and mother but she did not do them with genuine love.
She also went to church and encouraged her children to follow God. All of her outward acts convinced others that she loved her family and she was a good Christian.
Only God can judge a person’s heart but if this woman had realized that this man had become her idol she may have responded differently. She would have been wise to force his memory and his presence out of her life and I think she may not have been so blind to her blessings.
When we choose to focus on the idol of sin we seek to find our destiny in darkness.
It is impossible to discover the destiny of God’s will if you do not use His word as the light of truth.
In addition, if the idols in your life are based on sin you may mistake your blessings for burdens.
